United States Women’s Cycling Development Program

US Women's Cycling Development Program

The US Women’s Cycling Development Program is a network of people and groups who work to support and advise women cyclists in their pursuits of athletic achievement as well as business, community and charity goals. It is an organization dedicated to assisting promising female athletes to reach the highest level possible in women’s cycling.

Our mission is to provide career development opportunities for elite athletes. We strive to fill the gaps that can occur for the aspiring woman cyclist by building a partnership of coaches, trainers, cyclists, doctors, lawyers, and other dedicated professionals. This chain of relationships gives a foundation to our athletes’ pursuit of their cycling goals.

We choose to go beyond an athlete’s success on the bike and include the development of the athlete’s life around cycling. The depth of intelligence and compassion that is found in the athletes of women’s cycling is an asset to our global community. The USWCDP helps to tap the athlete’s potential to have a lasting and positive impact on the issues that resonate in their communities.

It is our belief that through a combined effort of developing outstanding cyclists and advocating for these athletes as remarkable citizens, we can highlight women’s cycling as an integral part of international sports and our global community as well.

Nicht vergessen!

Nicht vergessen!

"Nicht Vergessen" means, "don’t forget" in German and is a registered association located in Heidelberg, Germany.

Its intention is to inform the society about dementing disorders, mainly Alzheimer’s disease. The association is organized by a group of dementia researchers from Neurology, Psychiatry, Mental Health and Radiology being supported by business people and several public organizations.

Using new platforms like internet or other new media allows a broad distribution of the knowledge about that disease and is focused to make clear that Dementia is not a fact of normal ageing but a disease. Even though there are no specific therapies available so far, the early detection and diagnosis of the disease may help to relieve the symptoms and to prolong the time until the full markedness of Alzheimer’s disease.

JDRF – Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation: In Support of Ron Santo’s Walk For The Cure

JDRF – Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF) has been doing research for over 40 years for Type 1 diabetes, a disease most often diagnosed in childhood that strikes suddenly, lasts a lifetime, and carries the constant threat of deadly complications, including heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, and amputation. There are over 3 million people diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundational International’s goal is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

This organization was founded in the 1970s and has funded over $1.4 billion for research alone, with 85% of the funding going directly into research and education about research. Over the last four decades, this research is helping to improve the lives of people living with diabetes by developing better treatments and new technology. The creation of insulin pumps and glucose monitors were major accomplishments. The use of glucose monitors help in the individuals to test for low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and high blood sugar (hyperglycemia).

With this on-going research, the JDRF has been able to lower the risks of complications from diabetes and enables our doctors to treat patients. Anyone with diabetes or who knows someone with diabetes can be a volunteer. Get involved in various events such as walks, galas, golf tournaments, and other fundraisers. These fundraisers are a great way to meet other families dealing with Type 1 diabetes and forge bonds that will last a lifetime.

Ron Santo has created such a fundraiser. Mr. Santo is a former All-Star third baseman for 15 seasons in Major League Baseball. He played for the Chicago Cubs for many years and then finished his career with the cross-town rivals, the Chicago White Sox. Today he is a Cubs broadcaster on WGN radio.

Ron Santo has been endorsing the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's annual Ron Santo Walk to Cure Diabetes in Chicago since 1974 and has raised over $50 million for cancer research. In 2002, Santo was named the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's "Person-of-the-Year." There are currently 5 locations within Illinois raising monies for a worthy cause to help find a cure for diabetes, as well as promoting a healthy activity.
